Lower East Side, Brooklyn, Long Island City 2008-01-28
This was a cultural walk, starting out in
Chinatown, went through the Lower East Side, across the Williamsburg bridge,
and then covered Williamsburg and Greenpoint and then crossed the Pulaski
bridge, ending in Court Square in Long Island City. Highlights include:
- Eldridge Street Synagogue
- The 'Pickle Guys'
- Kossar's Bialys
- Williamsburgh Bridge
- Landmarked 1870's
Wiliamsburgh Savings Bank building
- Orthodox Transfiguration
I have been told, was the church appearing in the Seinfeld 'Latvian Orthodox' episode.
Note traditional Eastern Orthodox "onion dome"
- Greenpoint - and its
elements of Polish culture
- Newton Creek architecturally significant sewage
- Pulaski Bridge views west
- the 'Grafitti' building on
Jackson Ave., near Court Square, Long Island City
