The 'Transatlantic' Telescope    2008-05-30

You may have see this on CNN or the New York Times last week .... In the late 19th century, an inventor named Alexander St. George had the idea for a Transatlantic 'tunnel' that would serve as a telescope so that video images of people between New York and London could be shown in 'real time'.    His great-grandson, a sculptor, picked up the idea and of course using digital transmission built 2 19th century-style sculptures - and placed one under the Brooklyn Bridge, the other by the Tower Bridge in London.    So you look into the 'scope' and see there are cameras and circular video monitors on each end so you can see the people in London live.
